Your Fire Pierce has set your opponent ablaze!
Your Water Pierce has submerged your opponent!
Your Earth Pierce has crushed your opponents!
Your Wind Pierce blew your opponents away!

You lost the battle taking 120 total damage and dealing 49 total damage to your rival.
    You Physically Pierced your opponent!
Your Fire Pierce has set your opponent ablaze!
Your Water Pierce has submerged your opponent!
Your Earth Pierce has crushed your opponents!
Your Wind Pierce blew your opponents away!

Getting back to the point of the thread, however, am I the only one that finds it interesting that there was still no effort to explain what is happening or to fix the general so that Thane would work as described?

IDK, but maybe something happened in the months since my thread started.

I did have someone tell me that they were able to beat me with Thane activating.

It may be time for a new test.

Perhaps I should make a Thane defense load and everyone could hit me 10 times or something. Then people could report back their stats in terms of wins and loses for both Thane activating and not activating.

Does anyone have any new information on Thane, and how he works today?

This thread is the most informative I've found, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus even here...

I can confirm that Thane does not work with Layla. I have a 3 star L80 Layla and 1 star Thane. She gives him no boost.

What's happening exactly? First, may it be just a display issue?
Does the ability not increase at all in the alliance description? Or does it completely disappear from the alliance description?

Does Thane ability actually still trigger when you battle? Or not at all anymore?

It appears to be a display issue as my Jera gets double stats displayed, but the hits dont correspond with that display. The ability doesnt increase with Layla, so no boost there. Its a bit strange. Ive hit with Thane and his ability activated and I still lost. Im Sure there is a perfectly rational reason for that in terms of bonus and strength. Im not sure that he is worth leveling. I just got him recently so I dont have a lot of data yet. It does trigger, and I did beat one guy that I couldn't beat when it didnt trigger. Still playing with him.

                    a few notes on this..

Since battles have been changed (well a long time ago) that should be considered.

All battles now have 2 parts. In battle, the first battle is simply pierce vs resistance with a bonus calculated. Stats are not involved.

As was pointed out earlier, we are not completely sure if thane works by element or overall. If its by element then in each of the 5 pierce/resistance battles, if the owner of a triggered thane "loses" on an element, then that element bonus for the opponent becomes zero instead of the excess. Once the bonuses are calculated by element and added together that resultant bonus is then applied to overall winners "stats" for a stats battle to occur. The winner of the stats battle with the pierce/resistance bonus applied determines who wins. worst case if thane triggers your opponent gets a 0 pierce/resistance bonus if you lose on every element.

If Thane applies to the total the after the 5 pierce/resistance battles occur and the total is calculated, if the opponent "wins" then they get a zero bonus applied to their stats and a stats battle occurs. The winner of the stats battle with the pierce/resistance bonus applied determines who wins.

Overall, if the final pierce/resistance bonus plus stats is not enough to overcome the opponent stats you still lose.

And yes there seems to be a display issue when thane is involved and not first, his ability does not seem to show. But it does seem to work. what shows for example behind Layla is:
                    Layla Alliance Breakdown:
                    Current Ability:
Master: +83.5% Clone of Alliance General Ability
Master: 83.5% Clone of Alliance General Ability

Notice the master ability is repeated. That should not happen, but only happens with Thane. We believe that is thanes ability but the wrong text is being displayed. It is the same display issue regardless of the general in front, and this occurs whether thane is second or third, it repeats the text for the master's ability.

As to does Layla work with Thane. Layla does NOT work with generals that have to be first so abilities like halcyon, Orc King, Barbarus, etc. Generals like Amon and Thane work, however their abilities are not boosted. Layla can be used to boost the third general and still get value from Thane being in the loadout.

Overall what GOGOGO says about thane has been the completely correct based on testing. The only item i am unsure about is if thane applies to each element or to the final result of the pierce battle and GOGO has expressed the same concern.

I believe it works by element because it does seem to help if you have one big element which wins while the other elements might lose and get nullified, which under the consideration of thane applying by element would give you a bonus even if your total without thane would be less than your opponents.

For those that use the calculator in the wiki this 2 part battle has an impact as well, while you can calculate a theoretical "strength" based on pierce/resistance and stats its only directional and not exact because all battles are done in 2 parts, so toons with a lot of extra pierce/resistance can win even if they are calculated as weaker overall and vice versa. that calculator is still the most accurate we have, but as battles occur in 2 stages there is no way to calculate one single number as an absolute standard.

Bottom line as we have all figured out, Thane can help you win some battles sometimes. I have not seen any evidence that says thane's ability doesn't work, it seem to work exactly as developed with the exception that there is a display issue.

My question who would you think would be better in the 3rd spot Thane, Hera or Azriel?
