MAIN RULES OF THE FORUMS

Please respect your community. Respect each other as you all enjoy the same thing – The Game.

We encourage open and friendly discussion of the game and the Community. Moderators and Staff have final decisions on all matters, and are here to make sure that the Community remains a friendly, fun place appropriate for players of all backgrounds, ages and groups.

It is the forum member's responsibility to stay up to date on forum rules and to honor the behavior outlined.

PURPOSE OF THE FORUMS

These forums provide an area for constructive player discussions of the game. It also allows players to
help each other identify bugs and issues, and help each other reproduce and resolve them.

These forums are not the most direct way to contact support. If you’re having an issue with your game and you need direct assistance, please tap on the FAQ/Support tab within the game.

CHANGES OR IMPROVEMENT

Please make sure to stay updated on these rules by reviewing this page from time to time.

SET RULES

This is a private board. As such, decisions made are final.
We reserve the right to remove any message board content without notice for any reason.

Rule 1: Responses to rule violations
Violating these rules will result in warnings, either formal or informal, suspensions, banning, or other sanctions.

Rule 2: Respect other users on the forums
- Do not make attacks or insult other users, either in the forums or through private messages. Disagreements and debates are fine, but don’t make it personal.
- Do not attack groups. This includes professions, races, religions, sexual orientations, genders, incomes, or even vague groups like “you people.”
- Do not use ill terms which are offensive to groups, do not “flame”, “troll.” or “haze”.

Rule 3: Respect the forum purpose and structure
- Make your posts in the appropriate forum.
- Please use the Search function. If a relevant thread already exists, please post there instead of creating a new thread about the same topic. Duplicate threads will be closed to keep the forums orderly and easy to navigate.
- Keep off-topic posts in the off-topic forum.
- Don’t start discussions about games that are not ours.
- Do not cross-link to other message boards or websites unless approved by a moderator.

Rule 4: Respect the law
- Do not post anything illegal under U.S. law, or encourage other users to break the laws of the U.S. or their country of residence.
- Do not encourage users to break terms of service. This includes giving information about how to find scripts, exploits, or cheats, as well as arranging to buy or sell accounts or virtual goods.

Rule 5: Respect the audience
Think about who you're talking to. Users may be as young as 13 on these message boards, and may be male or female, and from countries across the globe.
- Keep your language civil. Profanity is frowned on.
- Do not post Adult Material, inappropriate graphic sexual content in any format, or links to sexually explicit sites.
- Do not post graphic images or explicit descriptions of violent acts.
- Do not use an avatar or signature that could offend other users. They have to look at it a lot.

Rule 6: Respect privacy
- Do not post any private emails or private messages unless you have the explicit permission of each person involved in the exchange.
- Do not post private communication between customer support, members, moderators, or administrators on these forums, or anywhere else. (This include support ticket responses)
- Do not post any information covered by a non-disclosure agreement or beta testing agreement. Even if you somehow have inside information about our competitors, for legal reasons we don’t want to hear it.
- Do not post Facebook information about other forum users.
- Do not post any private information about other users.
- Do not post in-game information in an attempt to have other players attack your target. Be careful to not cross the line into bullying.

Rule 7: Do not spam
- Do not post repeatedly about the same topic.
- Do not spam users on the forums or through private messages.
- Do not start a thread without actual purpose.
- Do not start a thread about a news story or article unless you make it clear what the story is about, and offer your own opinion to start a discussion.

Rule 8: Respect your account
- Do not share your account information with other individuals. You will be held responsible for any rules violations that occur under your account.
- Do not create new accounts or use other tricks to avoid suspensions or bans.
- Do not create ‘sock puppet’ accounts – multiple accounts created just so that you can agree with yourself and make it seem like your ideas have more support than they do.
- Never include your e-mail address or any other personal information in posts.

Rule 9: Respect the Moderators
- Do not post using the color red. This color is reserved for moderators.
- Do not impersonate moderators. Do not claim to speak for the moderators.

Rule 10: Respect the decisions of the moderators
- The moderation teams reserves the right to warn, suspend, or permanently ban users judged to be acting against the spirit of the rules, even if the user is following the letter of the rules.
- Do not argue with moderators about moderator decisions. You can disagree with a moderator’s opinions, just like any other poster, but when they post moderator actions in red text, it is considered final.
- Moderators have no access to your game account. If you have an issue you must contact customer service.

Generally, BE NICE. There is nothing wrong with being nice to each other.

  • About Forums, Flaming Wars and the Community

Hey Castle Age players, forumites & lurkers. zserg here. I've been spamming these forums since march 2010 and there are a few things I'd like to say.

Outside of the forums, and on the forums, and on iOS...these forums have a bad reputation(partly my fault for sometimes spamming too much, partly the mods for not banning me already ). I do know this. These forums have personality. I've been on other forums, forums where, probably even posting this would be deleted as off topic. They're boring. Mods being lenient is what has helped build this wonderful community; for every player that is afraid to come to the forums, there is also one that claims he/she would've quit if not for the forum community, myself amongst them. (though there are still clear lines you just can't pass, I know trust me ) Oh and for each of these 2, there's 20 people that have not ever considered the possibility of going to a game's forum, because forums are for nerds and ppl with no life

Here's the thing. Other than "do not directly insult other ppl" there are no real rules here. This is not a slow kill group. This is not your facebook friend list. All the people you blocked on FB? They have as much right to be here as you do. Your friends, your enemies (and lots of strangers) they're all here. Also, some of these people are quite smart, if you come in being sarcastic and aggressive they will fight back, if you wanna start a fight, it's really easy to do it. You might think you're clever and people won't notice your insults, or cut you slack because you're a newbie. Some might, but if a fight is what you want, a fight is what you'll get.

This is where our wonderful moderator crew comes in. If you think you've been wronged, they are the people who can help you. They're the sheriffs of this place. While sometimes they might arrive late to the scene, rejoice, you can not be mortally wounded like in the real wild west, this is just the interwebz . Keep in mind though that there are literally dozens of active threads at any one time, so they can't read everything, which means they might need a little prodding to see a certain thread. Also keep in mind that they are impartial, if you have been dishing it out as much as you've been getting it, you're just as likely to get an infraction as the other guy.

    Moving on.

When you post an opinion on the forum, you'll probably meet some naysayers. You have a couple options when it comes to people who don't agree with you (which does not make them trolls btw):
    1. Ignore them. There is an option on the forum to ignore specific posters which can help you in this (I have currently 3 people on my ignore list, though I don't perma ignore anyone - that's why there's only 3 people there)
    2. Respond in kind and potentially start a flame war in which you are just as likely to get infracted as they are.
    3. Try to see from their point of view. Like Obi Wan would say "many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." Maybe you think you are being wrongfully attacked, but is it possible that your own post might come across as aggressive, presumptous...dismissive of the forum community where you make your post? (thinking of threads that address -only- the devs; while I have in the past made threads where i ask for dev posts, I would NEVER, dismiss the opinions of my fellow forumites)
    4. Lastly if you think they are breaking some forum rules, I urge you to click the report () button. I've been using it with great success lately, and there's nothing I like more than seeing someone's flaming post get deleted.

This has gotten kinda long(I could've posted 15 smartass one liners in this time!), but all I really want to say is that despite all its flaws, the forums can be a great fun place, if you give everyone a chance. I've been in several different guilds, and there's always a time, at first, when you feel awkward being there. The difference between joining a guild and the forums, is that the guild you join wants your strength and help so they will be nicer. On the forums, this veil of polite niceties is mostly lifted. Most forumites however are nice people, I've been here long enough to know this, and frankly you would be surprised who some of these people are outside of the forums and what they do to help other people. Don't just come here during times of crisis either, wander to other sections too, and you'll have a chance to (maybe) start to love the forums as much as I do.

Re-reading I realized I have not really addressed the last part. The "community" that we may or may not have here.

Just in this thread, a few people have talked about the forum community. Without giving it much thought, I too used that word in my original post and thread title. But, due to recent events, I have decided to more carefully consider this notion. Here's the conclusion I reached:

    THERE IS NO FORUM COMMUNITY.

Shocked? Cool; that was my intention.

Now, I am not gonna leave it at that, because I think most people might find it a tad confusing and anyway, you can't have a conclusion without arguments right?
To fully explain, I think i am going to have to pull out my virtual dictionary:
    Community:
    1. A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
    2. The condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common.

As far as I can tell, when people talk about the forums or FB as a community, they think of the second definition. Certainly people on forums share common interests, certainly they share some attitudes, but we are a diverse enough group that other than *plays CA* nothing really applies to everyone. I definitely don't identify with what lots of people claim forumites are. And other than "extremely diverse group that plays CA" I really am having a hard time of classifying forum visitors, you'd think that as someone who posts a lot, it should be easier to me to see all the things we have in common.

That is why I maintain that there is no one forum community. There are lots of smaller communities that are part of the forums; the off topic community, the GD one, help and strategy, ios etc etc. Those communities however do overlap, and again, they are not communities in the spirit of the second definition I posted. Very few people post things I completely agree with, that I can completely support, and even those people, lots of times post things that I am against.

Each person here, especially those that have been around more time(sorry new ppl) understand that they really only speak for themselves. I would not be able to say that I speak for Cerby, even though we agree in lots of things. We have been in enough debates, that by now it's obvious, we will disagree in certain subjects. I have seen enough posts here to realize this.

Believing that the forums are a type 2 community, is what makes people generalize and brush the forums with just one type of paint. "They're rude", "they disagree just for the hell of it" "if you're new they will tear you apart regardless of what you post". Like I said in my first post, if you come here looking for trouble, you will find it, precisely because we are such a diverse group. If you post enough, you will push someone's buttons, and that person may or may not decide to push back. But other people will support you, that is the beauty of this, everyone can get a voice, all they need to do is to talk. (=type)

And with all of this said (and there is a lot more to be said, but I don't want to make it too long), I think i have to re-post my conclusion, but with a small alteration.

There is no forum community, no type 2 community. The only community we form is a type 1 community. We share one definitive characteristic *plays CA* and a place *this one right here*. So we're a type one community. Like a city. Or a crowded market.

Brought the above from one of the later pages.

    ---------

Also, before some mods call me out, there are more forum rules than just not calling people names

Please read about them here, if you're not already familiar with them http://www.castleageforums.com/cforu...ad.php?t=55277

I've only ever been on one forum, cuz I really only play one game with any form of seriousness so there's really only been a need to frequent one forum.

That being said, I know a ton of people from the forum, and overall we're a very helpful bunch, but only if you're willing to listen. If you come on here and act like you know more than those trying to help you, you're more than likely gonna get a bad first impression of the forum and it won't be the forum's fault.

              Methinks Zserg wants a sticky

In all seriousness though, this is definitely worth the read.
And not just for the new forumites, some of the older ones could do with reading and actually thinking about what is written here.

              Good post Zserg.

I've been changing my style in the past few years (for those who can see beyond the spam). I think a few of the old regulars could also use with getting over certain attitudes... that's very true.

I know there are some no personality forums.
I was in one that mentioning anything other then a game of that company was an infraction. I really didn't post much there.
