  • Treasure Chests... Broken?

For the third or 4th time, I've gotten the Stone Guardian. Then when I use my consolation points, I get a common. This has happened three times already. It would be much more convenient to have the system give you another general from the same tier.

So does anyone buy favor points for chests anymore? Is it worth it? I can't decide whether or not to bother with them, since I never get anything but commons... It's work for some (I've seen a few people with all the epic generals).

Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the first to complain about this!

It comes down to luck and the % chance. I tried the chests twice and once I got Mephy I stopped. The chances for epics are so low that even getting one was good enough for me. Plus I have better things to do with 55 FP.

I have yet to get anything better than Uncommon from the treasure chest, although I did end up with two of the rare items from somewhere else, probably dragon loot.

Y'know what might be cool, is if the random % chance just determined what category you got (common, uncommon, rare, epic), and then you could pick what you wanted from that category or any of the lower ones. That might not be random enough though, and it might make some of the folks who have spent tons and tons of favor points to get some of the epics mad that they had to work harder for it.

There's really nothing wrong with it. You shouldn't go in expecting that you're going to get the 5% or 10% rares after a few purchases. You should go in expecting to get something common. That's why they're common.

Okay, I think everyone is missing the point here.

Lets say you do get lucky enough to get that 5%, but that 5% is one you already have, how is that fair to have to repull and get a common? It's not.

That means that if I have an epic general that the chance of getting another one is not 5%, it's waaay less. It's more like 1%. Which is why I don't pull from the Treasure Chest because if I got two Mephistos and one turned into Elven Plate I would rip my computer out of the wall.

What we're failing to see here is that each pull is equal to $5. That is REAL MONEY. Chances are that if you got an Epic Hero that you spent money in some way and to get a second one and be denied is just wrong on so many levels.

When that system changes, I'll be happy to spend money on Favor Points because I like this game, but I'm not going to throw my money away.

Well the problem with that is that it works backwards too... The other day I got a chest... it gave me Serra Silverlight. I already had her, so got my 20 back... My next chest? Mephistopholes.

Its explained on the treasure chest page what will happen if you get a double of a general. You know what you are getting into before you get into it, so I don't see the reason to be upset when the system works as advertised.

Im happy with way it is. When the game gets dominated by those who buy favor points, others will run away and play another game, its as simple as that.

Think of it this way, when you are buying booster packs for a trading card game, you really shouldnt expect to buy once and get the rares you want, unless you're lucky, thats why the rares are called rares and people get satisfaction when getting them. Its totally possible for you to get one unique rares over and over again (that you can only have one in your deck) and wasted your money.

Game devs are kind enough to let non paying players to get favor points in game, so dont complain too much.

I think he has a good point, actually. If you rolled an epic but already had that particular epic general - then it should give you a different epic automatically the second time when it gives your points back. The flip side of that is that people that roll a common general that they already had would be stuck with something common on their next roll as well...which is going to happen more actually this reduces the odds of people getting epics I would think. Unless the devs want to be nice and say that if you roll a general you already have the first time, your second roll is guaranteed to be at least the level you rolled the first one OR better.

Does it give you back 20 FP only when you get a duplicate general, or ANY duplicate reward?

Only duplicate general, since they are unique. You can always get multiple crappy holy shields/fireballs/wolf spirits, and so on.

                      Rare is not necessarily good

One of the great features of the treasure chest, though I'm not sure if it was intentional, is that there are some great common items eg Serra Silverlight and crappy rare ones eg Water Elemental. So don't complain if you get get a common item, it could be a lot better than the completely useless (once you can afford pheonixes) but rare Water Elemental.

I generally use my favor points to buy the time-limited items, because I'm kind of a collector. I did get the Stone Guardian from a Treasure Chest, but am not that inclined to continue gambling with favor points (unless I end up with a real surplus of them), especially since I have gotten several of the more common items as drops from fighting monsters. And I'm thinking that we may eventually be able to construct the Epic Generals from items obtained from defeating them in Boss Fights, as those fights become available.
