  • Adventures In Trying, and Failing, to Get Past Gold IV 1 star 10 Colosseum Points.

One of the players in my guild reached Gold IV last month and has dropped at least once down to Gold IV no stars no honor points. He was ranked right around 2,700 when he was down there a few weeks ago, so we could easily have 3,000+ players now who have reached Gold. I'm sitting right now at Gold IV no stars 70 colosseum points with a 1,170 ranking. I ranked 852 the last time that I reached Gold IV 1 star 0 colosseum points and 757 when I reached Gold IV 1 star 10 colosseum points. I have not been able to participate in a winning match yet when sitting at Gold IV 1 star 10 colosseum points. The matching system has not been kind to me in those do or die 60 point situations. I'm sure that many/most other players have similar frustrations, but I can laugh about it a little and share my adventures. I usually only fight enough each week to reach the honor point cap and don't have as many attempts as I might if I fought at every opportunity, but I'm happier stopping each week and doing something else.

1st attempt. My team has a level 1,900 warrior, me at level 1,657, and three players just over level 1,000. The other team has Bernie Sanders, Suze, Bipolar Bear, and two very tough players in the 2,000 to 2,500 range. My team was dead in two minutes (Suze was in the top 30 at the time and ranked Platinum). Early in June when I was ranked way too high at 190.

2nd attempt. Eww. A level 41 cleric, a level 200+ cleric, a low level rogue, and M. And M is dead 30 seconds into the battle. And I'm dead 60 seconds into the battle. MeanieRaptor, Samurai Sloth, and one of the DAs (Mike or Paul) along with two other 2,000+ level players. Samurai Sloth showed up in Gladiator a few days later.

3rd attempt. Two Star Trek themed rogues and two low level mages who used one token to set each other on fire before fleeing. The other side has JediOne, two nearly 100% confuse mages, and two more high level warriors. My team died with the 2nd round of tokens.

4th attempt. Two Star Trek themed rogues, a level 700+ cleric, and a level 1,100+ warrior. JediOne is back again with the same two nearly 100% confuse mages and different warriors. Same result as the 3rd attempt.

5th attempt. Chiahung!!! We have to fight Chiahung at the bottom of Gold? I don't even know who was on my team given that I got one token off before the battle ended, but I suspect that they had names like 1 of 9, 2 of 9, 5 of 9, and Piddles the Pufferfish. I said dirty, filthy things about the matching system in three different languages after that fight.

6th attempt. I've finally collected a set of four Star Trek themed rogues in the same battle. We're facing ...... Chiahung again!!! Now with a 70,000 health guardian throwing sponge. I threw a few tokens and then learned to say dirty, filthy things about the matching system in a new language.

7th attempt. I'll let you know. I expect that MeanieRaptor, JediOne, and Chiahung will be teamed up with Butch and DNastyGenie if I make another attempt (my team will have the weakest gladiator and either three Star Trek themed rogues or the Pufferfish Triplets).

If I cared to try, I could make it to platinum, but there is no incentive to do more than the minimum battles to to max weekly points I am consistently ranked +/- 430th, which is definitely top 10% and likely top 5%, and I will finish in gold. As an event, this has been broken for the past two seasons. That said, it is F2P and some of the battles are fun. It is the most PvP event we have, and my build works pretty well in it.

The idea of losing points in Colosseum is so detrimental to the enjoyment of it for so many players. I'm pretty shocked the devs are so unaware of this in a completely free event.

I'm sitting right now at Gold IV 1 star 0 colosseum points and am ranked 1,057. I'm not going to be able to fight again for the remainder of the week, so I'll probably leave myself here as a marker and see how much my rank fluctuates in the final three days. And I just moved up to 1,056. Someone just lost 60 points in their fight that started at 3:59 pm EST.

the issue with forming team and trying to move up is that 5k - 8k ww are the norm

Final ranking. 1,122 at Gold IV 1 star 0 colosseum points. I wasn't able to participate in the final 2 1/2 days of fighting, and 66 players managed to move past me to Gold IV 1 star 10 colosseum points or higher over 2 1/2 days (I am assuming that anyone who landed on and finished with Gold IV 1 star 0 colosseum points after me received a lower ranking). A few may have dropped below me due to actions taken by Castle Age management, but there's no real way to know how many, if any, unless management gives us an accurate summary of their actions at the end of the event.
