  • Equipment slots ore/ingots question

Ok finally I can post a topic.

I'm somewhat new to trying to optimize playing so I'm just now absorbing what I need to do. I've only ever put runes into my equipment but clearly I'm at a point where my equipment doesn't really change often (until this new set of elf stuff) I think it's time to start putting the ore/ingots in. I know that they get destroyed if I ever salvage so that's why I've been very reticent about putting them into my equipment.

Is there a guide or page somewhere (I've not been able to google or find anything, either the terms are too general or my search terms are bad) that explains how to optimize what I should put into these empty slots? e.g. various piercing/resist physical/elemental

I'm a monster hunter. My general alliance is 2*Barbarus 35/ 3*Sahar 54/ 2* Dolomar 24 (in that order because I made the mistake of just leveling Sahar early on so she's got lots of atk/def and it would be bad to put her in the 3rd position since Dolomar is so far behind).

I'm now in the process of farming for bronze since I don't have enough groveblades to optimize the leviathan of void yet.
Do I slot up for a combo of elementals and physical?
or do i concentrate on physical?
Do i somehow keep a set weapons/armor for just fire/water/physical/divine etc (that will take forever farming ore), if you do that do you keep one primary set with your runes in it because you can't take your runes out if you do you lose your ore/ingots (right?)?

Sorry, I feel like this is probably covered somewhere but I couldn't find it looking at the FAQs and read first topics

    Hey MischMash,

I probably won't answer everything but I'll try to tell you what's important.

First, Pierce and Resistance are absolutely essential when it comes to PvP strength. Less so when it comes to monster hunting.
I wouldn't necessarily try to get the right stuff for monster hunting, but rather for PvP. And then you can use some of the equips from your PvP loadout(s) when hunting certain monsters, if need be.
A few of the biggest/latest monsters have a lot of Physical Resistance however (Chromus for instance has 400), and you'll have to use equipment with Physical Pierce to avoid a significant dmg reduction. As for Elemental resistance from monsters, I don't there's anything in the game a single Epic Chaos Gem cannot handle by itself.

You can check there for more info on Pierce/Resist on monsters:

Second, Physical Pierce and Resistance are a bit better than Elemental in PvP. Roughly, elemental is worth about 80% of Physical - it's more complicated than that but you can use it as a rule of thumb. So for instance getting +50 Fire Pierce would be equivalent to getting +40 Physical Pierce (PP), in terms of PvP strength.
Also, as a rule of thumb, getting more of one single element is better than spreading over all elements, but usually you won't really have the choice anyway, you'll just use your best Chaos Gems. For the same reason, it's good to have as much Physical Pierce and Resistance as possible. As more items have them as inherent powers, it's "easier" to get more of those.

Third, you can only put 1 type of gem or ingot in each slot of an item.
Chaos Gems are better than anything else, so if your item has only one slot, that's what you'll want to use. If it has 2 slots, you'll use 1 Chaos Gem + 1 Silver or Electrum Ingot for instance. And if it has 3 slots, it will be 1 Chaos Gem + 1 Ingot + 1 regular Gem (the best being the Shining Gem of Earth, before the 12th anniversary event).

You can see what gems/ingots are available in this section of the Forge wiki article (not updated with the 12th anniv stuff but doesn't really matter for you here): (click "Expand" at the end for the table).

Now since Chaos Gems are so incredibly important, if you haven't started yet, start doing Chaos Campaigns.
    Here's a guide about it:
And ofc the main article about them if you need more info:

As far as salvaging is concerned, you can prevent the loss of a gem/ingot by using an Unbind Stone. They can be quite easy to obtain from the Colosseum Shop (there will definitely be more seasons where you'll be able to obtain Honor Points to buy them:
However the price isn't insignificant either, and you shouldn't use them for any kind of gem/ingot. Personally I only use them for the Chaos Gem (Rare or Epic) when salvaging (you can use one per gem/ingot you wish to keep).

Oh and about the Ingots, easiest way to obtain the ingredients are Orcs. They only spawn in LoM, so you'll need the right guild.
Orc Horde and Orc Host make it really easy to obtain them. Orc Horde e.g.:

    About your MH alliance:
The alliance stats matter A LOT in monster hunting. I'd put Sahar first for now since she's the highest level and most promoted. However I'd stop investing in her now and when Barb has higher stats, put him back as master. Eventually Sahar's ability will become close to useless. But no worries, for now I'm sure she's important to the alliance. But if you got Demon Warrior from the recent event, eventually Barb-Dolo-DW will be much better. Although there may be new generals for you by then.
Good info in the first sections of this wiki article if you haven't read it:

    Other notes:
    • Divine Power items don't need to be equipped. You'll get the DP just by owning them.
    • And yes if you want to get a Rune back you need to salvage and that removes everything (that's when Unbind Stones really come in handy).

Okay well that was longer than I planned lol. You probably know most of what you need to know 😛

If you have other questions feel free to ask. I'll answer when I have the time.

This article should also be very useful to decide which equipment to go after. I thought about that because you mentioned the Leviathans and IIRC they're not useful for anything nowadays (not even for Item Archives I think). Well it can be fun to hunt all monsters regardless, but if you want to become stronger they're probably not the right target.

Note: the article is not 100% updated with the very latest stuff I think, but overall I think it doesn't matter for you right now.
