Ok, I'm no world beater by any means, but I'm beginning to notice a pattern at level 100 with 491 army. I try to attack 501 armies mostly, and my character is close to a 1 to 3 att/def ratio. I have a long way to go to be uber anything to be honest, but I do buy as much land, champions auras, commaders plates and valor knights as I can as I move along.
When I invade I've noticed a LOT of people just dismiss the magic items totally, and also are WAY too eager to combine heads when they are still rocking 100s of tree ents and willow wisps type units. Why combine 5 high powered units to create 1 higher power unit at the expense of using so many lesser, crap units? And why in the world do people not seem to take advantage of champons auras with no upkeep and in a area that IMO is the hardest to fully equip your army since you can't "buy" any other magic stuff? Just curious if others notice these patterns as well after reaching the guantlet? I'm not complaining, I just find it odd that people don't think through what they are doing and how to best take advantage of items and units. |

People might hold off buying expensive magic in favour of investing in more land.
If they are happy with the strength of their character for now then why put millions into magic for little immediate benefit? Long term investing that money in land first will pay off better in their circumstances. |

I ve noticed this pattern as well but its more with lower ranks.
I guess they are more of Monster hunters with a reasonable attack thus getting some kind of a rank. Most of them i think have enough money to buy 500 phoenix but just are not here for battle. Thus they dont care what units they have. They are more of collectors and are happy to collect as many Cronus as possible.

For this, and because 501 Champion's Auras are only worth 3 stat points put into both attack and defense (total 6), so they're not really worth it. They only give you a small edge over your opponent, if anything, and after entering the Gauntlet a 6 stat points difference is not much considering you'll be fighting people of 100 levels over yours.

1. Magic items don't give much benefit for the cost. Search around the forums a bit - it is actually kind of stupid that they cost so much and only factor into a battle marginally at best....so people are going to build up their magic via hydras, dragons, gifts, etc...
2. I know I am still building my income up and am not going to throw it into auras for such little return on my investment...I will save for the new higher level one - the seals... I don't know what the cost is for them, nor what the att/def rating for that item, but it can't be a worse value for my money than the auras! |

True but when two people are just about evenly matched any advantage is helpful. As such upgrading units/equipment/magic is the last thing to do but still something that needs to be done in order to be as effective as possible in the PvP realm.
I'll admit magic is the last thing I maxed out as well, but if you are an invader, it has to be on your to-do list somewhere.

I have not to this day had a battle list 100 levels above me pop up, and in fact the highest I've had was maybe 40-50 levels above me and I had little to no trouble winning those battles. I have looked at every single person who chained me and not one was 50 levels above me. I guess I've been extremely lucky so far. Do get me wrong, I have had my butt handed to me, but when I go back to invade them I usualy win the 10% time that people aren't hiding (no complaints on hiding either, part of game and I'm cool with that in case that sounded like a bitter statement). I'm sure as you get way up in ranks then the 80 and 100 lists pop up for you since there aren't a ton of peers at your level if you are say 250 or something. Which begs another question, if you are at a level where there aren't many others, then do you never or rarely show up on a battle list since they populate it with a page of all the same level? Believe me, I don't wanna fight someone that high because I'm not remotely ready, just a curiousity thing. I gotta think that they don't ever get thrown on a battle list unless there is some factor I'm unaware of, but I dunno. If that is the case then someone who stocks up on energy and stamina at the cost of battle stats in order to level like mad would eventually get clear of having to worry about being battled by the masses. And if you are a white whale like that and isn't on a list then the only way you would be found is on a monster list I guess? Again I have no idea if that can happen or not. Maybe some higher ups can answer this question. |

Also is there some some reason I'm not thinking of that people are combining heads when they are still fighting with 100-200 tree ents and a host of other lesser units?

But if your army is filled with anything superior to dragons combining is better.
