i now have 304 orc axes and my question is it worth combining 150 orc axes to make avenger??

If you have a big army and have nothing better to equip them with, then keep the orc axes separate. However, if you have anything better than a 4/1 or don't have a big army, then convert to the 14/0 avenger.

Depends. If you are a newbie, and plans to invade, keeping 300+ of them would be helpful if you do not have the cash to buy better items, or they are helping you to fill up the items to 501 (again, if you have no cash to buy further items). If not, combine them.

In general, combine them. It's easy to find good items in this game. For instance, it's easy to unlock Gladiator Swords, which have 5 attack and 4 defense. True, they get more expensive as you buy them, but they're worth it until you get Commanders plates, which are better.

In general it is good to combine them, so you have more powerful weapons to fill your arsenal instead of a ton of mediocre ones, but it's smart to remember that you don't need to be in a rush to combine them. Your orc war axes aren't going anywhere if you don't combine them. That big red button will still be there tomorrow, next week, next year. If you have a huge army and not a lot of items, it's better to have 300 orc war axes that are 4/1 (giving your army a 1200/300 max boost) instead of two avengers that are 14/0 (a 28/0 max boost).

Follow-up to that, it also depends on what you do in the game. If you don't invade a lot but duel or hunt monsters more often, it's better to have that one great weapon. But most players will get Holy Avenger pretty early in the game, and, at 12/12, the computer will always select that for you to use over a 14/0 Avenger.
