Default Water protection gem: how to get it from water elementals

Water Elementals are randomely summoned to players that are attacking when the trident is still alive, and whom do not have water resistance. Only that specific player is able to attack the elemental, the player is marked with a blue symbol next to their name in the leaderboard. The elemental has 15 water resistance, further reducing damage to the main monster. Damage done to it is not recorded on the leaderboard.

There is a bonus to attacking Water Elemental, you will have a pretty good chance for a water fragment. If your purpose is to have water elemental appear, attack trident with 10 stamina, until it appears. They can appear multiple times.

In alchemy, the resulting gem appears to be the same as the one attainable from main monster drops, so, since the damage water elemental does not count towards final loot, it is not advisable to join Poseidons just to farm those.

Question : Will the damage blocked by the water elemental scaled with its health?

Water elemental 100% healthy, prevented 16,073 damage.
Water elemental 5.8% healthy, prevented 952 damage.
Both on 10-stamina hit to trident. Tested, it is a helpful tip to leave elemental alive, but weak.

Seems Poseidon is changed, because even when trident is dead, we get the "you barely escaped" message.

I don't get that last phrase. If someone wants to obtain these gems, why not obtain them from the Water Elemental instead of / in addition to Poseidon himself?

I suppose my wording was incomplete. It is perfectly alright to try to make water elementals appear to fight them, as long as you contribute your share to killing Poseidon. However, joining Poseidon just to get shards, and not doing enough damage to Poseidon after you're done, is just selfish tagging.

To get water fragment from water elemental, is it better to fight with 10 Stamina button ? Or the loot is given only after killing water elemental ?
In my case, with 10x 10 stamina button, elemental will be dead, I've less chance to find fragments if it's given during the fight of elemental than another player with less attack than me.

It is stamina-based, always 100 stamina, guess that's why it doesn't count towards poseidon damage. Should drop after it's killed, not poseidon.

A low level friend (mid 200s), heavy on defense, told me otherwise; he was complaining that he had used almost 300 stamina, and the elemental is still alive.

I suspect that once a player's attack reaches a threshold, it would take 100 stamina to kill the elemental. Prior to that, the amount of stamina required increases.
