Thread: American Proverbs + “in bed”

Default American Proverbs + “in bed”

In the US, Chinese restaurants give you fortune cookies at the end of the meal. Inside the cookie is a small strip of paper filled with words, usually wishing the reader well, etc. ... thus “fortune” cookie.

What people don’t know is fortune cookies are written in a special way with the last two words omitted: “in bed”. So there is this special formula for the fortunes that gets hidden in these cookies.

So my friends and I decided to test whether American proverbs, wise sayings, aphorisms, etc also work with this rule. So I will go ahead with a few example:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (in bed).

If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it (in bed).

Action speak louder than words (in bed)

Or add “when in bed” rather than “in bed”.

Whoever digs someone elses hole will fall in it himself in bed.

(Doesn't seem to work for Romanian proverbs)
