Thanks to all those who helped building the set of equations presented below.
We started by producing a table listing the experience required to reach a given level in order to find a pattern.
This is a summary:
LEVEL (LVL)--------EXPERIENCE (XP)------- INCREMENT (INC) [from previous level]
-----1--------------> 0----------------------> 0
-----2--------------> 9----------------------> 9
-----3--------------> 19---------------------> 10
-----4--------------> 30---------------------> 11
-----5--------------> 45---------------------> 15
-----6--------------> 72---------------------> 27
-----7--------------> 125--------------------> 53
-----8--------------> 195--------------------> 70
-----9--------------> 305--------------------> 110
-----10-------------> 495--------------------> 190
-----15-------------> 1422-------------------> 179

EQUATIONS
========================================
-------------------------------------------
From LVL = 15 onwards:
If LVL = Odd number then:
INC_[LVL] = INC_[LVL-1] + 14
Otherwise:
INC_[LVL] = INC_[LVL-1] + 11
-------------------------------------------
Thanks Lena!
-------------------------------------------
I found a best fit equation that seems to work quite well from level 9 to 186.
Please check it up and let us know whether it works for you.
LVL = Next level, that is your current level would be equal to [LVL - 1]
INC = Increment in experience required to reach next level
INC = [12.5 * LVL] - 6.254
Example:
You are level 50 currently. Therefore LVL = 51.
INC = 12.5 * 51 - 6.25 = 631.25
That is you need about 632 Experience points to level up from level 50 to 51.
==================================================
In terms of TOTAL Experience, the best fit equation, for LVL = 25 and beyond, is:
XP = roundup((LVL*2.5)^2) [ARRACK]
================================================== ===============
Experience increment:
INC_[LVL] = 6.25 + 12.5*(LVL-1) + 0.75 (If LVL = Even)
INC_[LVL] = 6.25 + 12.5*(LVL-1) - 0.75 (If LVL = Odd)
For example:
To reach LVL = 201 being at 200, you will need: Δ[XP] = 6.25+12.5(200) + 0.75 = 2507
================================================== ==============
Planning ahead [iseng]:
Δ[XP] needed for current lvl (L1) to complete certain level (L2):
Δ[XP] = 6.25*(L2+L1+1)*(L2-L1+1) + 0.75 (If L2-L1 = Even)
Δ[XP] = 6.25*(L2+L1+1)*(L2-L1+1) - 0.75 (If L2-L1 = Odd)
eg:
150 to level 200: 6.25(351)(51)=111881.25 (+0.75)
151 to level 200: 6.25(352)(50)=110000
151 to level 201: 6.25(353)(51)=112518.75 (-0.75)

Level 185.
215,711/216,225
Tho I think it would be more useful if you took this information and derived a list on how much each level cost in terms of XP.
For example - it's easier to see that (lets say my level) needs about 2,300 XP from the start of the level then to the end of the level.
It's the way our minds work.

Just asked a mate of mine and he's showing:-

Or 343 EXP needed to go from Level 27 to 28.

Agreed. However, for the time being is easier just to read what the Level bar says and then work out the best way to report.
I'm setting up a spreadsheet top play with the number. Right now I'm starting to see a pattern, but havent found an equation that fits all the data.
Thanks for helping out!

Mega- Douche. I'm really Mr. Mungo-Zambasa Ugululu. A representative of the Nigerian Royal Bank of Castle Age. We have just found 500 Billion Gold in one of our bank accounts and no one to claim the money.
You seem like a nice chap. So would you be so kind to post ALL your CA bank details so you can claim the gold in our behalf?
Thanks.

Yes, sorry. I misread how to present the information. The level stated was current level with the experience stated when the next level would start.
So it should have read:
Level 44 - 12,100
Level 59 - 21,757
Sorry about that.

10-28-2009, 01:00 AM
In what case?
In all cases!
Take for example LVL 74
The required experience is 34,225
Your equation:
XP = ROUNDDOWN( (6.25*Level^2)+12.5*Level+7, 0 )
XP = ROUNDDOWN( (6.25*74^2)+12.5*74+7, 0 )
XP = ROUNDDOWN( (34225)+925+7, 0 )
XP = ROUNDDOWN( (34225)+925+7, 0 )
XP = 35157
That means 932 Experience points off the actual value!
Now
XP = 6.2505 * (LVL)^2 - 0.1248 * LVL + 6.6466
XP = 6.2505 * (74)^2 - 0.1248 * 74 + 6.6466
XP = 34227.74 - 9.235 + 6.6466
XP = 34227.74 - 9.235 + 6.6466
------------------
XP = 34225.15
------------------
Better.

XP = 34227.74 - 9.235 + 6.6466
XP = 34227.74 - 9.235 + 6.6466
------------------
XP = 34225.15

Well, it depends on how you are interpreting "Level". The above equation answers the question... if you are "this" level, at what experience do you need for the next level.
If you want to know how much experience is required to *reach* a certain level, just subtract 1 from level.

I have a spread sheet created, was actually very simple and really didn't need an equation. A simple formula was able to accurately calculate out all xp needed for every level.
Since we knew the sequence of 11,14,11,14 it was very easy to calculate the XP needed for the next level.
All I had to do was take the previous xp increment and add either 11 or 14 to it and then add that new number to the previous XP needed to get the new required XP.
Example
LVL 22 = 3064 xp
LVL 23 = 3332 xp
Difference between lvls = 282xp
282+11 = XP increment to LVL 24
LVL 24 = 293 + Previous XP
LVL 24 = 3612xp
I only created the sheet from lvl 20 to lvl 442
The first sheet is a basic question and answer. You tell it what lvl and it will tell you what XP is needed. The second sheet has ta table and the third sheet has the formulas if anyone is interested and an area for lvls 1-19 to be filled in as those levels I think from reading the thread don't follow this pattern.
Enjoy.

The exp formula looks like so many other games.
The lower levels do not fit a nice formula, it's probably done with a lookup table in the game. This is typical for games.
25 and beyond is roundup( ( 2.5 * level ) ^ 2 )
That's pretty common formula for this type of game,
MW uses int( (2.5 * (level + 1)) ^ 2)
Again, with a lookup table for a small range of the lower levels.
The roundup is why you get +11 and +14 alternating with the finite differences.
The main thing to realize is that the difference grows roughly 12.5x per level, for which you get 5 points to put into energy/stamina. Unlike MW where you can grow energy enough to level endlessly, there is no way to get 2.5exp per stat point in Castle Age.
I'll leave it as an exercise to to the reader to figure out what the time between levels without refills is on average.... (it is calculable, although variable depending on stamina being expended on invading/dragons/keira).

here's the equation:
http://www.castleageforums.com/cforum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=539
xp:
total xp for the next level = 6.25*(lvl+1)^2 (round up)
eg:
in level 200, total xp to level up = 6.25*(201)^2 = 252507
in level 201, total xp to level up = 6.25*(202)^2 = 255025
xp needed to level up: 6.25 + 12.5*lvl
(-.75 for odd level, +.75 for even level)
eg:
for level 200 to level up, will need: 6.25+12.5(200) + 0.75 = 2507
for level 201 to level up, will need: 6.25+12.5(201) - 0.75 = 2518
planning ahead:
xp needed for current lvl (L1) to complete certain level (L2): 6.25*(L2+L1+1)*(L2-L1+1)
(if the level is odd-odd: -0.75, even-even: +0.75)
eg:
150 to level 200: 6.25(351)(51)=111881.25 (+0.75)
151 to level 200: 6.25(352)(50)=110000
151 to level 201: 6.25(353)(51)=112518.75 (-0.75)

Erm, seeing as how 1^(anything) = 1 then your 10000*1^(lvl/40) = 10000, whatever the level.
I'm pretty sure that's not right... ;)
lol you're right of course :)
the formula is : 10000 x ( lvl / 40 )^2

It think we've found all the info we need to work out the whole picture.
Thanks to all those who helped out.
Please refer to the OP for the conclusions.
@axelar
10000 x (1/40) ^ 2 = 6.25
So your equation is pretty much the same already presented. But thanks anyway.

It looks like the relationship holds for levels above 20.
level exp diff diff_of_diff
25 3907 318 14
26 4225 332 11
27 4557 343 14
28 4900 357 11
29 5257 368 14
30 5625 382
31 6007
i didn't save the numbers but did it from level 120 to 130 awhile ago and it's the same 11/14

I calculated it slightly differently but the result is quite the same than with your equations, but adding a few alterations in an excel sheet I got to a quite accurate result (comparing with the numbers posted in this thread).
the excel sheet contains no macros. it shows the lvl, the total exp needed for each lvl and the exp to the next lvl. there is another column with a few numbers which are the numbers taken from posts in this topic about the real exp for that lvl to check if the formula is correct.
the formula is not 100% correct but I think the result is not that bad and by copying the cells of the last row further down you can go on with the table.

Hello folks, looks like I'm a year late to this discussion, but here's the formula that I've been using in my Excel spreadsheet. J6 is the cell in which I input the level. Not sure when I calc'd this, but it has worked at least from lvl 200 to my current 400+.
=SUM(IF(ISEVEN(J6),7,0),SUM(IF(ISEVEN(J6),INT((J6-2)/2)+1,0)*(IF(ISEVEN(J6),INT((J6-2)/2)+1,0)+1)/2,IF(ISODD(J6),INT((J6-1)/2)+1,0)*(IF(ISODD(J6),INT((J6-1)/2)+1,0)+1)/2,IF(ISODD(J6),INT((J6-2)/2)+1,0)*(IF(ISODD(J6),INT((J6-2)/2)+1,0)+1)/2,IF(ISEVEN(J6),INT((J6-1)/2)+1,0)*(IF(ISEVEN(J6),INT((J6-1)/2)+1,0)+1)/2)*25)

My version of Excel does not support the ISEVEN and ISODD functions.
The consensus seems to be that the amount of experience increase required to level up alternates between 11 and 14. That sums to 25 experience required to be added for every two levels gained. A simple approximation is to use 12.5 experience per level and ignore the error, which is positive for one level and negative for the next. We are talking about an insignificant error for the higher levels.
The value of the calculation comes from estimating the time required to reach the next level, and the error is roughly the time required to regenerate one stamina/energy or about 5 minutes. When comparing 5 minutes to the days or even weeks required to level up at the higher levels, it is truly insignificant.
If you are interested in knowing how many refills it will take of either stamina or energy, to reach a desired level from the current level, the error is still insignificant, since you are talking about 2 divided by the number available when refilling. For most people the error will be less than one percent.

you can change the iseven, isodd function to if functions. Here's what you get when using my formula:
Cur Lvl; Xp to lvl; Xp Incr; Change in Incr;
1 25
2 57 32
3 100 43 11
4 157 57 14
5 225 68 11
6 307 82 14
7 400 93 11
8 507 107 14
9 625 118 11

@level 400 you need 1,000,000 total xp @level 800 it's 4,000,000 so you need 4 times your total xp to double your level,
