Question:
If I win a battle do all of the points that I have earned come from my opponent? Specifically, I want to know if I battle and win someone above my level does my opponent lose more points (say 12 points) than if they battle me and win (say 4 points)?
Or is it a case that I get 12 points having won and of that 12 points my opponent lost only 4 points?
For instance I battled a first knight and won 12 points but when they won me I lost 4 points. So if all 12 points came from them (with nothing contributed by the system/game) it costs a higher ranked player more to lose to a lower ranked player for each attack.
Any clarification would be appreciated.

I've been experimenting with that very question this morning! I think there is a formula for battle points lost, based on the relative ranks of the fighters (just as there is a fromula for battle points won).
If I fight someone 3 ranks below me, I win 3 BP or lose 6 BP.
If I fight someone 2 ranks below me, I win 6 BP or lose ___
If I fight someone 1 rank below me, I win 8 BP or lose 4 BP.
If I fight someone at my same rank, I win 10 BP or lose 4 BP.
If I fight someone 1 rank above me, I win 12 BP or lose 3 BP.
If I fight someone 2 ranks above me, I win 13 BP or lose ___
If I fight someone 3 ranks above me, I win 15 BP or lose ___
I believe a clear pattern exists -- you get penalized more for picking on a "little guy" if you lose, and you are treated more gently if you attack a "big guy" and lose.
If this is correct, then the answer to your question is that some, but not all, of the battle points won come from the losing opponent.

the amount of rank points won does not equal the amount lost .

The loser loses half as many BPs as the winner gains, I think.

to judge from the numbers the system tells me when I lose a fight while online, the BP exchanged does come directly from the loser of the battle. The amount lost, or gained, according to the outcome is based upon the relative battle Ranks of those involved. Both same rank appears to make for a 10 BP gain or loss with that amount dropping quickly if the loser is of lower rank and gaining about the same rate when the loser is of higher rank. About 4 ranks lower appears to be where it reaches 0, while 4 ranks above can make for a gain of at or near 20 (the biggest gain I've seen so far was 17 lol). So picking on a much lower rank is good for getting demi points and possibly some gold (considering the sermon so many give over getting a monster income in the 100's of millions per hour so very quickly). But those picking on the much lower ranks don't get much else for the doing beyond boosting the listed stats where it says how many battles they've won as opposed to the number they've lost. And of course the few XP gained for the battle.
