Colossus of Terra won't give Star Metal

I've battled numerous times against Colossus of Terra and no matter how much damage I do or how fast I knock him down I'm not awarded Star Metal that's needed for Excalibur in Alchemy. What can I do?

try joining hitting more colossus and hope for a drop of star metal to appear
