View Full Version : Do you usually publish the incessant notifications, or skip them?

Just curious how many people actually publish the near-continous stream of auto-generated Castle-Age propaganda?
Personally, I skip them. The only thing that escapes into the wild from my CA is an occasional Call to Arms or intentional invite to a non-player.
I've seen several threads complaining about this; Perhaps if we make it clear to the devs (assuming they read these posts at all) that these messages are not achieving their original purpose, they will deign to reduce the number of them.
So, vote, if you please, and let the devs know.
Also, if you skip the majority of them, but do publish a few specific kinds, plese let us know which ones you do publish.
Cheers,

I skip them most of the time. Occasionaly I post on Dragons, and when I got my helm. I actually hid CA because of all the junk posted, which I would rather not do, but...

I only post it when it seems like an actual achievement...Battle rank increase; victories at 1000,2000, 5000; Completion of a demi-power path;etc.
Otherwise, I skip them. It is very annoying to have it pop up every 10 battles.

I skip them all the time. I get so many, I don't even realise when a special one comes along... I don't look at them any more and only notice after it's too late to get it back. I'd love to publish special ones, but for that to happen I'd need less of them to start with.

Only post call to actions

I post intentional call to arms. Nothing else. I do send notifications for army, ect, but that's usually via sending gifts. Not going to spam my friends for no good reason, as one of my earlier threads pointed out. Especially for the money I make. There's absolutely NO use for that in the first place.

I, as others have said, post only a few... 5000 battles, Battle ranks, and call to arms. These stupid notifications, if we posted them all, would actually drive away potential players among our friends because they are so sick of all the crap.
I too blocked Castle Age because I have a dial up connection and cant have thousands of posts on my wall or else I would spend all day just waiting for it to load.

I just post a CALL TO ARMS, and battles won, but only every 200 wins or so, and not always then.

I skip all of them, it seems like useless advertising cuz ppl will get mad when they've been spammed w/ infinite Castle Age achievements.

I skip pretty much all of them except for calls to arms and vanquishing dragons/Keira. Unless I get click happy and publish one by accident.

Not only do I skip publishing that spam, but I've also blocked the game from my newsfeed because I'm tired of it taking up half the feed (the other half being Mafia Wars "Nothing Personal" messages).
Today out of boredom I unblocked it just to see how bad the spam was, facepalmed, then promptly blocked it again. Idiots were publishing every little event that happened.

I skip everything except calls for help for a dragon battle (my own) and also announce the victory (with my dragon).
I find it extremely annoying with the "you made this and this much income" notification popup on every page when I come to the game... That's part of why I'm stashing money always very quickly. I just hate the popup so much.
I personally find it irritating when people post each and every tiny bit of notification about their games. Sorry to sound rude, but I can hardly find real status updates anymore from amongst the games notes!
However I think there are even worse spammers than CA, and I hope Facebook will deal with those applications soon if they don't limit the notifications themselves. At least Farmville has removed the ribbon for posting pics about individual farms, which I think is a very welcome improvement.

I skip about all of them. The only ones I don't skip are call to arms, either for myself or for helping others (I do those with hours apart to avoid spamming). Also, I don't skip the notification of that I've won against this and that dragon/Kiera as well as any new item that I've never gotten before.
But the rest I skip. Why can't it be like it was before, there you could check a box telling you don't want any more notifications of this and that?

You would think it would cause lag on the server.. i skip them, in fact they are irritating enough for me.

I'm pretty sure the facebook API handles sending those notifications, rather than the game code. The game has to initiate it, but FB does the grunt server work.

Skip them all. Why on earth should I tell ppl, what amount of gold I've received? Or if I would've posted every single 10th won battle, when I've won several thousands of them, there would be nothing else on ppl's front pages than useless "I won 10, 20, .... 14000 battles!" *argh*
My suggestion is, that no automatic posting, all could be done by clicking a similar button as call to arms, IF someone really wants to publish something.
And no, I don't post "got meself an Avenger Blade" or that other stuff either, coz it's no use to other players. Only post those, that serve other ppl's needs as well. Not to mention, how totally annoying it is, when Mafia Wars "Ice Age part MCMXCIX" appears on the front page.... It's getting hard to find the real help requests so that the game itself would be fluent. Both in Mafia and CA and I DO know, Mafia ain't the CA devs problem

...My suggestion is, that no automatic posting...
We're unlikely to see them removed completely. They serve a function for the developers, namely, to recruit more players, which is how the devs make money, in the long run.
Hopefully with this thread we can help the developers see that there is a balance that can be struck between driving new traffic to the game, and not annoying the hell out of the players they do have, and thier friends who might become players.
I'm not holding my breath, because the massive volume of free advertising that the notifications create is obviously working for them, financially, and the number of player leaving the game because of this issue is probably hovering somewhere around zero percent.
I'd like to see a compromise somewhere on this though.

I'm about to hide the stupid app from my news feed.
I only post call to arms, and only my own dragons, not someone elses.
As soon as those dragons came out, my news feed is nothing but CA now with dragons and other crap.
The only reason I haven't blocked CA completely is because I want to see when people post their own Call to Arms for help. But pretty soon the only dragons I'm going to be fighting will be my own. I can't even pick out my friends stuff anymore because of this app.

I only use call to arms and maybe post the defeat of a dragon, so people who helped but logged off before it was killed and afterwards log back in can see it and get their rewards.
Also, the rest can get really annoying. If it bothers me too much, I just block it for a while till I need to go look for other people's CTA^^
I agree that there's no use in publishing your income everytime you receive it or declaring that you won another ten battles. I wouldn't mind it occasionally like every 100 or 500 though, because that is an achievement and it's okay to brag about it^^ I mean, people tend to brag about real trivial things of their real life on FB, too ;)
What really annoys me is that the more army members you get, the more stupid app stam you see...and half of the time in languages that you don't even understand^^ My favorite pasttime on FB is blocking apps^^
