View Full Version : Better to spend FP on Chests or Monthly Generals?

After 3x3 chests yielding Gallador, Artanis & commons, :( I thought:

Should I just buy a monthly General for 30 FP? During invasions I could use the extra general (unless I'm missing something).

Suggestions?

Do you invade or use Mephy/Artanis/Chase/Crom? If so then you may want to get more generals.

If you're just fishing for generals, the monthly is the safer bet. Gamble on chests but remember that you can get 0-3 generals. Also never do chests aiming for one specific general. That is a recipe for disappointment.

I was HIGHLY dissapointed with my treasure chest rewards.... 240 Favor Points down the drain. I would have been better off buying 8 monthly generals.....

I buy monthly generals because :
- They most of the time are and look nice
- I roughly earn 30 FP a month witch is just what it requires
- I don't wanna lose 30FP for a useless item when I could have a nice general
- I like collecting generals, that's maybe my only "goal" in playing CA

If with time I get more than 30 FP a month, I'll consider buying chests to complete the general collection

As an afterthought.. when buying these monthly generals is it enough to just pick up the general alone? I presumed that unless you get the 3 allied items that go with the monthly general you dont get an effective general to do justice to having him/her in your army?

Most of the equipment make little difference with respect to PVP and monsters, which is really what generals do 99% of the time. The rest of the time, they just sit on the bench as cheerleaders for Malekus, Kaylen, Ambrosia, Azeron and the army maxers.

Occassionally, some gear has some benefits towards the ability. I would buy those over the bonuses to general attack and defense. The reason being that the general's stats make very little difference in PVP and monstering. But no, you DO NOT NEED to buy all 3 items to feel "competent" with that general.

Thanks. I wish I had asked this question 3 hours ago before I bought that Barbarus with all his knick knackers. I could've bought 2 more generals with the FP I spent. Blah! :(

Don't feel too bad about it, Barbarus' helm is one of the only two general's items worth buying (Kaiser's Backdraft being the other one).

You could have wasted all those FPs instead of just 50 of them. :D

As with everything in CA, I think the question of monthly generals vs chests
comes down to what you want to do.

Here is my experience:

Bought an alpha chest: Common: shield of Artanis.

I was low level at the time so this was my best item.

Bought an alpha chest: Common: Elven plate

Now this item was only so-so useful (invasions only)

Bought 3xVanguard chest: Common: Gilded Bow
Common: Whisper Cloak
Common: Shadow Panther :(

This was pretty crappy. 5 common in a row is unlucky. I have never used the
shadow panther for anything (my army isn't particularly big). For a while
the whisper cloak was my best item of its type but not any more.

At this point I gave up on chests and went for Monthly generals.

I'm a hybrid PvP/Monster basher (with the accent on PVP) so I got the two
generals that I thought could help me the most in those areas: Slayer and
Lyra. They have since proved very useful.

Once I reached level 100 I thought I would reward myself (and the devs)
and plunk down $20 for 120 FP. I now had the most useful monthly generals
for me so I took a stab at the chests again. I could now get onslaught so I
tried them and got:

3XOnslaught chest: Uncommon: Wildwalker staff
Common: Wildwalker Tunic
Common: Draken Blade

Now this was really annoying. 8 chests, 7 common and 1 uncommon. None
of them generals. Given the odds, very unlucky.

At this stage I had 59 FP left and after scowling at the computer for a
minute I thought, "Stuff it," and bought another Onslaught chest.

Bought Onslaught Chest : Epic: Azriel :D:D

This was perfect for me. With 2000 archangels in my pocket Azriel
will be great for dueling. I'm happy with 1 epic, 1 uncommon, 7 common
over 9 chests.

I would say if you are wondering about monthly vs chests my experience has told me this:

If you are low level, consider a chest. You may get something that will
help you big time (Dueling vs level 15s with Sylvanas) and at the worst you
will get something quite useful. Alternatively, save your FP for when you are
more experienced.

When you are more experienced you will have a better feel for what kind of
CA player your are. At this point, buy the monthly generals that will help
you in your goals. Once you've bought all the monthly generals useful to you
consider using your FP on chests. It might be a waste but you might get
something far better than anything for sale and you've bought all the good
stuff from the store anyway.

I'm now pretty set for generals though I do have a "collect em all" urge.
Why else would I be trying to get Chase when my army is less than 50?

Now my only problem is to decide on the best way for a level 115
commander to get 2000 Archangels.
