View Full Version : Swearing off dragon hunting...for now...

I have just achieved level 50 and the last several levels went by with the blink of a dragon's eye. As has been mentioned, dragon hunting allows for quick earned experience. I hear the rumors about the bloodbath after level 80 and I don't want to be a lamb at the slaughter.

So...after I have helped finish off the dragon I am on, I am swearing off dragons for a while in order to focus on building defenses. My army has increased and I feel that I should do what I can to prepare for level 80, such as:

...buying up to 500 gladiator swords, knight heroes, champions auras, and commanders plates for my army.
...Obtaining Blade of Vengeance and Sword of Redemption from Azeron.
...building defense from Corvintheus.
...putting majority of skill points from future levels into defense.

I guess I'm just trying to maximize my effectiveness before I get to the slaughter. I know that I will still be meat on a spit, but at least I will feel that I have tried to do something to minimize the damage I will take.

Then I will go on to other things such as dragon hunting. My only fear is that by that time, there will no longer be dragons and the game will have moved on to other gifts and monsters. So the Helm of Dragon Power will probably be unachievable. Oh well.

Thoughts?

I agree with you! I just noticed that I went from level 48 to 60 in a matter of a week! I too am building up defenses. But on the plus side, now is the best time to actually go past 80, as many people are engaged with the dragons and aren't concentrating on battling as much. That and since they too are leveling faster, they are only getting stronger, so in the end, it could be worth your while to go past 80. Leveling once or twice a day is better than getting one Corvintheus/Malekus points per day. I just want the option to purchase Commander's Plate for my army.

One note for you though... if you're planning on buying commander's plate, then you won't need gladiator's swords. You can only take one unit, one item and one magic spell into the fray. So you shouldn't purchase both. I bought 500 steel plates and 500 axes for far cheaper in order to help out in the meantime. But that is your choice.

Of course I meant one unit, one item and one magic spell per army member! :D

Good point about the commander's plate overriding the gladiator swords. I missed that one. I am still working on achieving the commander's plate. But I will avoid purchasing any more than the 156 swords I have now and will eventually sell them when I have the commander's plate. I already own 500 steel plates and axes. Thanks for the input.

Well, I just killed my last dragon for awhile. We killed the frost dragon with 8 people and 5 hours left. I was able to do 86,732 damage and actually made the killing blow. My rewards are:

1 favor point
2 demi points Ambrosia
1 demi point Malekus
energy potion
water sprite 6/6
fire elemental 8/5
war lion 6/6
energy bolt 1/1
moonfall crown 6/3
berzerker amulet 5/4
marketplace

I thought for sure the cruel fate of irony was going to rear its ugly head and award me a piece of the dragon helm...but temptation avoided.

Lvl 80 is not that bad :P...was hella scared when i just leveled to 80. i thought i will die in an instant. lol. but its not what most think. well, with the recent changes made , you'll hardly ever get noticed.. theres lotsa people alive at the battle section ...plus with the dragons, the attention was averted to the slaying of those beast.. the only thing hard to do is achieve a high-rank since its hard to find an opponent you can take down..theres a lot..but mostly the non-juicy targets(scouts-soldiers-you know what i mean).. good thing i have my rivals from when i was 70+ and we're constantly still beating up each other... im 85 general and i still battle those within the 70 bracket. lol.
i am in a group where we hitlist/share links all the juicy targes and it really helps a lot in finding an opponent to battle :P its good to take down a list (wahaha)

and oh..i dont even have maxed knight heros, i have about a 100 of them..the rest phoenixs..im close to high general (800 to go) and was thinking i should just wait till i can buy archangels...

my armory wasn't even maxed out... my spells neither.. but those dragonbanes and dragon charms work well :P

i realized (at this era of CA)...the only way to move forward is to keep leveling up...level up fast till you can beat them all. slowing down / pausing /halting, well for me, will yield lesser results...this is a time where most let their guard down.. strike while the iron is hot XD

You'll be OK when you pass level 80 for now...

Im a level 164 High General. I haven't battled anyone since the dragons came out except the odd tap here and there.

Sometime... you will have to pass level 80... it will happen eventually...

I would suggest that you do it now while we are all distracted with the dragons... if you wait you will get beat up on more as more players will be looking for battle points by then - rather than the dragon helm pieces...

Make sense?

Oh... and as for "the gauntlet"... it's usually plavers in the range 80-100 that will be beating up on you... players my level might hit you - but it's more of a random event as there are so few that can beat us... we just hit those on whatever battle screen we are given (well I do anyway).

I know...just trying to prepare for it as much as possible.

All the more reason to make sure I'm prepared. It's rare for someone my level to beat me now. If I set up for optimal defense by the time I reach 80, then I should be in good shape.

No amount of preparation is going to save you from someone who's is decently geared and has decent units if they've got a 50 level or more advantage on you, at least not at level 80. They would essentially have had to completely ignore training up their attack and defense for you to have even a remote chance. The serious battlers will make a light snack of you if they decide to attack even if you have the best of everything. The advice to continue leveling quickly is quite sound...

Hey Adrian. Read your Signature!!!

"If he is secure at all points, be prepared for him."
"If he is superior in strength, evade him."

I will evade avoiding level 80 untill I feel I am sufficiently prepared.

I'm not an idiot, I know that someone 50 levels up on me is going to have me for breakfast. But at least I can be ready for the ones who aren't.

Heh, the part of my signature that comes to mind in this instance is: "If he is in superior strength, evade him." You'd be better advised to evade, but that is of course your choice :)

I agree with you! I just noticed that I went from level 48 to 60 in a matter of a week!

I'm in a worse position. My plan was:
- stay on level 59 (as long as possible) till I earnt the Sword of redemption.
- build up income and not fight or do quests until I earnt the Moonfall Amulet.
- buy everything I needed.
- then fight may way to General.

However dragons came along. I have gone from level 59 to level 77 fighting dragons. My only hope now is to earn the Jewell of Fire to complete the set before I reach level 80. (I got the Sword of Redemption yesterday).

Oh well, hopefully the 80+ players consider dragon slaying more fun than slaying fresh meat.

Fresh meat you say...they have to have something to use as bait for the dragon! :D

The level 80+ game isn't as dangerous as it used to be since the dragon summoning began. Less people are spending stamina on invading/dueling and instead, attacking dragons. If the dragons go away and are not replaced by another distraction, I would expect the sharks to begin circling again.

While it is not as bad as I thought, I am still getting spanked enough to see the flaws in how I chose things throughout the game so far. lol Honestly though, it could be a lot worse...

Would you mind sharing some of those flaws with the rest of us below 80, so we can benefit from your wisdom?
