a friend of mine told me that in order to get the best items from a dragon fight, the summoner of the dragon had to deliver the killing blow. does anyone know if this is true?

Not sure, but I've been in on 3-4 successful fights and the only one where I got one of the special items (needed for the epic helm in Alchemy) was when I delivered the killing blow. I haven't yet summoned one myself, though, and my sample size is small enough that it could have just been luck I got it that time.

I don't get it. Why would your friend lie to you ?
Ask them for their evidence if you don't believe them. I am sure if they are a good friend and say things like that then they have hard evidence to back it up.
I have The Helm of Dragon Power and have never summoned a Dragon myself but that does not prove/disprove anything.
I have summoned a gold, got highest damage, delivered last blow and did NOT get alchemy piece for helm.

I theorize the amount of damage determines your rewards, by percentage. The greater your percentage, the greater your reward.
I had close to 20 gift items when I was lead killer on a dragon three times.
I have not finished second, have lost lots of sleep, so I do not know what finishing lower does.

I havent worked it out either.
My stats so far are;
4 Gold, 1 Dragon Helm (I slew one and didnt get a dragon helm from it)
4 Frost, 1 Dragon Helm (again I slew one and didnt earn a dragon)
2 Red, no Dragon helm
1 Emerald, 1 Dragon helm. (I did slay it, and I inflected 33% of the damage out of 13 fighters)

I got the kill on a A-red, was middle on damage, was low lvl. I did not get anything special.

The three drops of specials I got....#2, #9,#3 in damage. The three times I was the damage leader I got nothing as far as special drops. IMO and IME, the damage you do determines the rewards you reap, not your damage ranking.

she got the info from one of the dragon guild group leaders. she forwarded me the e mail she got and he DID say the summoner needed to get the last hit, but didnt provide any proof. all i know is ive been in over 10 fights, usually in the top 5 and a couple times as the top hitter, and no dragon items... so i was curious as to if anyone else had heard of this

CORRECTION. I did earn a Dragon Helm by slaying a Frost Dragon.

It's conjecture based on very limited data. The official FAQ (http://apps.facebook.com/castle_age/help.php)within Castle Age says, "The more total damage you do to the monster, the better chance you will have to get better rewards. Keep in mind the faster you kill the monster, the better chance you will have to get better rewards." So, there's a reasonably good chance that the total damage you do and the time it takes to kill the dragon are going to matter to your rewards. (However, even the official Castle Age documentation isn't always right.) The documentation doesn't say anything about rewards being affected by summoning or getting the last hit on the dragon, and so far, the data doesn't seem to show any significant support for either condition improving your rewards.

All the rewards are secondary to what should be your aim.... getting the 4 peices that make the helm.
Imagine this situation ( It is all theoretical )
You give 100% damage to a Blue Dragon you stand 100% chance of dropping the helm piece.
You give 50% damage to Blue dragon 1 and 50% damage Blue to dragon 2. You stand a 25% chance of NOT getting the helm piece. ( 50% chance of getting it once and 25% chance of getting it twice... if allowed )
This is just theory and pure %age chance to drop based on damage done. The devs may have slipped in other factors into the formula but there is little way of telling and very hard to work out i.e. higher chance if top slayer, summoner, final kill, time left etc.
I doubt if dropping is pure random. ( we would have heard of a one hit wonder dropping a piece by now). From the slayings I have read you need to be delivering a significant amount of damage. Some people have given as little as 50 000 damage to a gold and received the piece. Others 200 000 to a blue and not got it.
If you want the piece, I would reccomend concentrating on one dragon with all your stamina for the best chance. Nothing is certain but I believe you can improve your odds.
I have the Helm and are currently trying to kill blue dragons to see if I can collect the 4 pieces again.

by far slaying 2 dragon
in my first run, land on #3 top damager, not got the piece
the summoner, which land only #6-7 got the piece
so i think the summoner got the helm piece, so summon my own
and land only #8 place, not got it either, some friends in rank 2 say he got the piece.
so the formula is still confusing to me,

a friend of mine told me that in order to get the best items from a dragon fight, the summoner of the dragon had to deliver the killing blow. does anyone know if this is true?
Not true. I have help a friend with a gold dragons, although I'm not the one with the heavy damage dealers nor the top damage dealers, in fact I was the last one.
Guess what I got? Firewall.
It doesn't matter who deals the last blow, matters most who contribute the most. The top damage dealers around 1~5th is likely to get better rewards. Not the last player landed the killing blow.
I have fought another friend's green dragon, landed a killing blow, but the rewards isn't as great as you imagine if you thought you kill the dragon with the deadly strike.
I hope this can be a references, if you need that specific items, you gotta work on it
Ya totally not true. I have probably the worst luck so far as I have 15-20 dragons down and only 1 piece. my friends have downed 2 dragons and gotten 2 pieces off them too.

Ancient red was summoned by someone else, was near the top of the leader board and got the killing blow, got an hotd item and several others got one as well. Didnt matter if the summoner got the last hit in.

Kael, I have an interesting theory. We know that Vulcan has announce that the dragon has been "updated" not so powerful as before, and the droppings are more better. If you need that specific items, the best way to get them is actually not to let many participants join the battles.
If in 1 dargonfights we can get only 1 hidden items, and there is only 5 players who helps to slay it in that group, then everyone in that group has 1/5 chances to get that item.
I can't say I have proof of that, but I also didn't hear anyone from the same group, can 2 person won hidden items at the same time. If there is any dragonslayer leaders or organizations can prove me wrong, I'll be delighted to delete this post

i gave the final blow to Alundra's dragon about an hour ago. I got no alchemy drop, but 3 others did. I was 6th in total damage if i remember correct, but top player Luxor didn't get it either.
Bottom line, more than one drops, no guarantees just maybe a higher chance the more damage you do

never summoned - killing blow twice - have two parts of alchemy (neither from killing blow). it doesn't appear that tehere is a guarantee one way or another - get on the dragon and do as much damage as possible then let the gods figure it all out!

I got jewel of fire from a ancient red, but did not summon it or give the last blow. I was however the top damager

If in 1 dragonfights we can get only 1 hidden items, and there is only 5 players who helps to slay it in that group, then everyone in that group has 1/5 chances to get that item.In addition to Lena's report of multiple people getting an alchemy piece from the same dragon, there are also reports of dragons not dropping any alchemy pieces for any of its attackers at all. I suspect that, if you don't kill the dragon quickly enough, then nobody gets an alchemy piece.

Lena, Falco thanks for your insight. Falco, come to think of it. When I fought that gold dragon in the last place, the fight ended in 60hours. Your assumptions for quick killings to get better rewards might be right.
But then again, quick killing, not many players to participate in dragon fight this will probably raise up the % of getting that rare alchemy items, if the group is successfully defeat the dragons in shortest time.

I delivered 20 single hits on a Red Dragon doing 13K in damage. For my efforts I received 1 demi point for Azeron, 1 Sky Sanctuary and the Jewel of Fire - that's it that's all. After reading this thread I realized what I've obtained, (JEWEL OF FIRE - an ingredient to the Helm of Dragon Power), now I'm stoked.:D
