Question about battle items

Lately when I'm battling another army, the game draws on the following items:

Moonfall Amulets x1
Moonfall Robess x1
Moonfall Shields x1
Holy Avengers x1
Moonfall Maces x1
Amulet of Cefkas x1
Dragonbanes x36
Lionheart Helms x1
Moonfall Crowns x1
Gladiator Swords x305
Avenger Amulets x3
Berserker Platemails x1
Staff of the Tempests x1
Steel Plates x147

Note the 147 Steel Plates, in spite of the fact that I have 147 Battle Axes in my armory. I know for a fact it was picking Battle Axes yesterday. Why am I suddenly using Steel Plates at (2/4) to attack instead of the Battle Axes at (4/0)?

2/4 = 2*1 + 4*0.7 = 4.8
4/0 = 4*1 + 0*0.7 = 4.0

This morning I noticed the game now has seperate categories for Weapons and Items, I don't know when this started as I'm out of town this weekend and thus not paying much attention to this game. Armor is now in the Item category, though the division doesn't make a lot of sense in some cases. Maybe the money boost was to help us buy things to make up for the fact that are now more things we need.

Yup...offhands are items...anything but main hand weapons/magic are items it looks like

Yes, I know, just it looks a little silly. But it is way better than in Zynga's games where tigers are weapons and you can travel using an army of snowmen :P
