Items selected when dueling

I'm puzzled by one of the item selections I see when I duel. My understanding is that during a duel my general should be equipped with the best item from each class but that is not happening.
I only have 2 amulets: Helena's Memento and Sacred Amulet. Sacred Amulet is marginally stronger, but it is never selected. Helena's Memento is always selected.
It is not a huge difference (just one point difference in total attack/defence) but my guess is that sometimes a point matters.
Any thoughts regarding whether this is a bug?

Both have attack 1 so it doesn't make any difference. When you attack, if you could see a duel where someone did attack you, it would use the "Sacred Amulet". (Sorry to say, there is no way to see that, unless you have a friend come over and let him attack you. Not being in your army that is and then he would show you his page where he is the one attacking you.)

Thanks. Sometimes this gets confusing. According to the information at http://castleage.wordpress.com/combat/ which of course is unofficial, the points for the general's attack and defense are summed so it does not make any difference who is attacking whom. I guess I assumed that applied to the equipment as well but on closer reading the article does not actually say that.

Curiously, the last time I dueled (just a few minutes ago) the system DID choose Sacred Amulet, the first time that has ever happened.
